G2 Ramjet (MOSC)

Here's the second piece that arrived from a seller holding two separate auctions which I won a little while ago.  They were a battle to get, and cost me more than I wanted to pay (then again most things do), but in the end it's two more items that I can cross off of my rather small G2 list of Transformers that I need.

Worth paying for in this condition

This was the other beauty that arrived along with G2 Ramjet. Click HERE for G2 Starscream.

Now, I have always tried (though not always lived by) the philosophy that if the price was too high for a figure to just walk away from it since for the most part, another one will always come along at some point.  Granted, these two figures are not rare by any means when compared to say, some Diaclones for example, but it had been quite some time since I had come across these two in this kind of condition so the trigger had to be pulled........and now they are off of my list.

What is my list for G2 you might be asking?  Take a look....

Now back to the reason why we are here.

Ramjet (1993, 1994)
Accessories: 2 missile launchers, 2 missiles, 2 fists (left & right), 2 wings (left & right), 2 tail fins, front landing gear, sound effects box

Ramjet was first re-issued in 1993, as part of Generation 2. This toy featured a predominantly-purple color scheme. It came with a sound box accessory. G2 Ramjet was also sold on card. A 3-D model of G2 Ramjet battled with Optimus Prime in the opening credits of the Generation 2 animated series (which was actually the original series with new CGI bumpers).
This isn't mine but as a comparison, here is what the GIG packaging looks like.
Obviously everything is the exact same other than the text placement and figure layout.

Sound F/X box still has crisp clear sound which surprises me after all these years.

I won't be opening up my guy, but this is how he looks if I were to.  I like the purple and black colour scheme.  The turquoise blue doesn't really match but that wasn't what the G2 colouring was all about.  Even the SFX box works if you look at it from the perspective of being one of those extra boost thruster packs.

So in the end, why did I buy this figure?  Why not just have the G1 version and be done with it?  Valid point.  For me, I still consider this to be a G1 figure (it is still the same mould body-wise, minus some attachment variations).  I think to pass on a figure for its redeco colouring is a shame because in the end, isn't that difference what really what makes this figure so special?

  1. Purple and teal are great, Sixshot, Clones, Overlord, Darkwing, Dreadwind, etc. all share that colourscheme. Best con colours hands down, nice pick up, I need to get myself a loose one
